Welcome to Spring Hill Advanced K-8 School

Spring Hill is a private school where the talents of bright , motivated and gifted children are recognized, nurtured and developed to their full potential.

The school’s accelerated and enriched curriculum supports academic success and encourages a spirit of inquisitiveness and creativity.

This is only a brief introduction to our school. For a real flavor of what Spring Hill has to offer, please pay us a visit to see at first hand our campus, our teachers and, most of all, our students; it is toward their success that we channel our energy and expertise. They are, after all, our finest ambassadors.

Why Choose Spring Hill

What makes the Spring Hill educational experience so rewarding for students is not only the specific curriculum that is taught, but how we teach it.

  • Our approach to differentiated instruction sets Spring Hill apart from other schools. We use a variety of teaching resources to address individual learning styles. Students work in small, ability-based groups . They move through groups when they are ready, not just at a planned interval.

  • Our small class size and low student-teacher ratio enable teachers to incorporate creative learning methodologies that are experiential and “hands on.”

  • Specially trained teachers understand the needs and development of highly motivated, talented and gifted children.

  • Our small school size and cross teaching creates an intimate learning atmosphere where no student can ever be invisible or “fall through the cracks.”

Small School Size Benefits Learning

Our school consists of just 156 students, with one class per grade. Our current class size is limited to 16 students in grades K-4. Grades 5 and 6 are limited to 18 and grades 7 and 8 are limited to 20 students per class. The overall student-teacher ratio is less than 10 to 1 at Spring Hill. Our teachers teach not only their own class, but are experts in special areas such as Spanish, Latin, science, writing, drama, French, gardening. Our teachers  “cross teach” in other classes, meaning that every teacher and the principal are involved in the education of every child at the school. In small classes, teachers and students collaborate to set individual goals, and teachers gain a genuine appreciation for each student’s abilities and interests. The faculty presents material that challenges and encourages critical thinking, problem solving, and creative expression. Teachers routinely modify lessons and to address the individual needs and abilities of each student.

Differentiated Instruction, Experiential Learning and Ability Grouping

In reading and math, students are grouped by interest and ability levels rather than by grade or age. These groups are often very small, consisting of 3 or 4 students. Students demonstrating aptitude in a particular subject area are given the opportunity to stretch beyond the boundaries of programs typical for their age or grade level. This approach allows our students to excel when compared with other children statewide and nationally. Through continual progress assessment of individual reading and math achievement, the school paces the curriculum to students’ individual needs, and their style of learning.

Spring Hill emphasizes hands-on learning whenever possible. Experiential learning ensures greater comprehension and understanding and is more fun! Starting in Kindergarten, children learn to use research, interviews, oral presentations, multimedia resources, and extra curricular activities to answer the many questions they have. Since learning happens outside the classroom too, each teacher plans field trips to complement individual class curriculum.

The school schedules regular events which expand the daily curriculum. They include the annual Invention Convention, Science Fair, Authors’ Fair, Talent Show, Family Science Night, musical and drama performances and other independent class assignments. Our students participate in theater productions, music concerts, sports, and academic contests in spelling, math, geography, poetry and science.

Leadership and sound social skills are taught through Student Council, multi-grade activities, school mentoring, and community service. Self respect, team work, tolerance, compassion, and cooperation are encouraged in every activity and interaction.
